Which material is good for camping tents?

The materials of outdoor camping tents can be divided into fabrics, linings, base materials, and poles.

1. Fabric

Compared with different fabrics, nylon silk is thin and light, suitable for mountaineering and hiking campers. Oxford cloth is thick, but relatively heavy, suitable for making tents for driving camping or small groups. From the perspective of waterproof coating, PVC is waterproof, but it will become hard and brittle in winter, and it is easy to crease or break. PU coating can not only overcome the defects of PVC, but also has good waterproofness. PU with multiple coatings can achieve a waterproof pressure of more than 2000mm.

2. Lining

The lining (inner tent material) is usually made of cotton nylon silk with good air permeability. From the perspective of use, nylon silk has better performance than cotton cloth. When camping outdoors, tents are very easy to absorb moisture. Cotton cloth is not easy to mold if it is not properly dried, while nylon silk is easy to dry and not easy to mold.

3. Base material

The main function of the tent bottom is waterproof, moisture-proof, and dust-proof. The choice of base material also determines the grade of the tent. Low-end tents usually use PE as the base material, and some use PVC, which is low in cost. Although the double-sided laminated PE has waterproof and moisture-proof functions, it is easy to wear and leak. It is the nemesis of PVC base material in winter. The PU-coated Oxford cloth is used as the base material, which greatly exceeds PE in terms of firmness, cold resistance, and waterproofness.

4. Pole

The pole of the tent is the skeleton of the tent. The quality of the skeleton material not only affects the life of the tent, but also affects the stability of the tent. The early tent poles often used steel bars, which not only increased the weight of the tent, but also had poor resilience. The improved tent skeleton uses glass fiber poles, which are lighter, more resilient, and have lower costs. Therefore, current tent manufacturers mostly use this type of material as poles, but the strength and firmness of glass fiber poles are not ideal. If the poles are thickened to increase strength, the weight is also increased. The ideal pole is made of aluminum alloy. The pole connected with high-strength alloy tube is not only high-strength, but also light and has good resilience. In particular, the EASTON pole made of aerospace aluminum has various indicators that reach excellent conditions, so it is mostly used for high-end tents.
